Thermosteps-MTL supplies panels for a foundry

23 august 2010

Taganrog Steel Foundry (Tagmet) is one of the oldest Russian foundries and was established in 1895.

In 2002 JSC Tagmet became a part of Steel Pipe Company (TMK), a Russian leader and the world's second largest steel pipe producer. JSC TAGMET is the leading national pipe manufacturer in the area of development, introduction and production of gas-proof thread connections. Its products are used in oil and gas industry, machine building, construction and public utilities service.

In 2005 the foundry launched a project for upgrade of facilities and construction of new workshops. This project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010. $ 300 million are invested in production capacity expansion, improvement of quality and cost reduction to make the company more competitive on domestic and international markets.

The first phase of the project in 2005 comprised creation of a center for design and development of new thread connections. In addition to that, a continuous casting machine (CC machine) was launched.

In 2008 JSC TAGMET was the first company in Russia to commission a PQF (Premium Quality Finishing) mill that employs an advanced technology of seamless rolling of oil and gas pipes. This PQF mill is the only machine in Russia that uses three-shaft rolling to increase output and quality of finished pipes.

The company purchases state-of-the-art construction materials to upgrade its existing facilities and erect new ones. A total of 12000 sq.m. of sandwich panels manufactured by JSC Thermosteps-MTL is used as building envelopes for the new foundry shop. Sandwich panels are supplied through Logistik LLC, an authorized Thermosteps-MTL partner in Rostov-on-Don.
